Wikification Plan

 

The objective is to build the library web pages using MediaWiki software, the software on which Wikipedia is built. In doing so, the web site will become an interactive space since wiki software allows users to add content to existing web pages. Depending on the content of the web page, some pages will allow editing, others will be locked to editing. A trained wiki community will develop over time, one that contributes to any number of facets of campus life - a gallery of student and faculty work, class resources, campus clubs and/or committees, community resources, and so forth.

 

Steps

 

Develop template for main web pages Ian

    a. Using student link template

    b. Main web pages include the pages for traditional library website content, such as Research Resources, About the Library, and Services. Also, the "gateway" pages for Campus Resources and Community Resources.

 

Create new brand for pages Ian

 

Find reliable/stable host for dummies

 

Find WYSIWYG editor/extension Ian

 

Continue to develop/maintain library resources, tutorials, camtasia recordings, podcasts (website content) Candice

    a. Work on short camtasia videos for the How To section. These will guide students through basic use of the library in a short (5 min. or less) amount of time (bibliographic instruction)

    b. Develop brief podcasts (10 seconds or less) for the How To section to give students an idea of what that link/video will talk about

 

Begin dumping the above-mentioned content into new template/structure Ian/Candice

 

Find/develop functional template for pages that will include images, videos, and any other form of multi-media Candice/Ian

This will apply to the content pages for:

    a. Gallery of Student and Faculty Work

    b. Under Campus Resources, the Library, Diversity committee, CCC Alumni, and Upward Bound

    c. Under Community Resources, Nowitka (formerly known as the North Coast Collaborative Imperative

 

Contact stakeholders for the subdomain content of site - alumni, Nowitka - to start planning respective content Candice

 

Begin developing the content for the pages "beyond" the traditional library content, i.e. Gallery of Student and Faculty Work; Campus Resources; Community Resources Ian/Candice (**with an emphasis on CCC alumni - pressing need)

 

 

Talk with Lucien about usability testing with his web design class in Fall '08. Candice

    It would be ideal if the class could focus on the new library web pages, or at least a portion or aspect of them, and critique these web pages for usability. If this turned into an annual project/collaboration with this class, it would be AWESOME! (that's official wikification
